A Twitter Battle for the Ages
Remember April 4th? That was more than two months ago, which is simultaneously impossibly short and terrifyingly long ago. It was two days after Tariff Day and China retaliated, sending the DJIA plunging. Musk’s SpaceX Dragon crew returned safely home.
It was also jobs Friday, with a strong 228k that everyone overreacted to.
On Friday, that print was revised down to 120k. That’s right: a full 108k lower than originally reported. What follows is how I imagined last week’s social media battle playing out had it continued through Friday but focused on economic topics.
If you can’t tell the difference between the real tweets and satirical ones, it probably says a lot about the current state of affairs.
Also, the Trump swag pics were taken by The Real Boss™ at a Best Western in Greensboro that was holding a Trump conference…but she was there for volleyball board meeting…wink wink…
In fairness to all the involved parties, I probably sent the first shot across the bow that sparked the debate.
White House Spokesperson Karoline Leavitt had a note from her mom to miss school to cover the jobs report. She didn’t take long to clap back.
From there, it was on. Now that he’s not friends with Trump, Elon disagreed with her rosy assessment.
Powell reminded Trump why he can’t cut rates.
Thankfully, a real economist jumped in…
Unfortunately, the clowns returned quickly…
Speaking of fraudulent…
The Week Ahead
Are you still here? Sheesh. Why? Ok, inflation this week that should still come in soft. Next month we should start to see the impact from tariffs. Also, the Fed goes dark ahead of next week’s meeting.
Perhaps the most fun from this was the Jerry Jones twitter account which appears to have been dormant for 14 years…but people are still hate-responding to posts he made in 2011. How ‘Bout Them Cowboys!?!?
